Washer symptoms, likely causes and what we do

Most washer faults trace back to a pump, a lock, a valve, a seal or a board. Here is what each symptom usually means and how the visit goes.

Will not drain or spin

A clogged drain pump or coin trap, a failed drain pump, a worn belt, or a door or lid lock that no longer reports closed. We clear the pump, test the lock, replace the part and run a full cycle before leaving.

Leaking

The door boot seal on front-loaders, a cracked drain or fill hose, a tub seal or the detergent dispenser. We find the source with the machine running rather than guessing from where the water lands.

Loud banging or grinding on spin

Worn drum bearings or tired suspension rods and dampers. On a front-loader a bearing job is a larger repair, and we quote it against the age of the machine before you commit.

Will not start or stops mid-cycle

Door lock, main control, user interface, a drain pump timing out or a water inlet valve. Error codes tell us where to look first, so send them with your booking.

Smells or leaves residue

Mould in the boot seal, a clogged dispenser or a pump filter that has never been cleaned. We clean, replace the seal if it has degraded and show you the monthly routine that keeps it away.

Repair or replace?

Pumps, locks, valves, boards, seals and suspension parts are usually worth repairing on any machine under ten years old. A drum bearing on an older front-loader, or a control board on a discontinued model, may not be, and our technician gives you the number before starting. You get a fixed quote first and pay only the diagnostic if you choose not to proceed.

The technician that came to check on my broken freezer, Ilya, was very knowledgeable, experienced, and professional, and I would definitely return to this company if I have future appliance issues. Through the initial consultation over the phone, it was immediately clear that Ilya was very knowledgeable and experienced based on the questions he asked and what he was able to deduce just based on the information provided him. He was able to come check my fridge on the day of on very short notice, and spent much time dismantling my fridge to get a proper diagnose of the underlying issue (not just the problem at face value), whereas the company I previously reached out to before switching to Edellin had only looked at the fridge for a few minutes and gave a very vague diagnosis. The previous company (appliance repair expert, they are scammers, do not use their services) never contacted me after I paid the home visit fee, even though they said they would send someone to repair my fridge later, and was unresponsive when I called or emailed. On the other hand, Ilya was very honest with me that fixing my fridge was possible but not worth it, as the fridge was quite old and the repairs and part replacements would cost more than half the cost of getting a new fridge of the same model. He also provided a contact to an appliance company that would be able to give me a discount for a new fridge. Desperate, so I called Edellin Home Services. Ilya didn’t rush me, didn’t act like my complaining was a burden, just listened and calmly said he’d be there in two hours. I almost cried.
Then he showed up on time, toolbox looking like it belonged to a fridge wizard. He popped the door open, took one look, and instantly spotted why the defrost mode had gone on permanent vacation. The man moved like he’d been fixing fridges since the invention of ice cubes. Two hours later my fridge was back from the dead, purring like a happy cat.
No sneaky credit-card surcharge. No “surprise” extras. Just a very reasonable price and a working fridge. I can finally cook real meals for my family again. They looked at me with actual pride instead of pity. Honestly, I felt like a kitchen hero.
